Holiday Glitter Madness for Eyes, Lips and Nails...

Photo from Glitter Bug Cosmetics. Check them out!

...or if you are me, you probably find excuses to do it year round. My love for glitz and glam started in my childhood and in high school you'd often find me carrying a black patent leather tote sprinkled in a rainbow of glitter colors. Inside, you would find a furry leopard print date book and a pink feather pen with an iridescent glitter print (among other Lisa-ish things). I remember showing up at my aunts house one day with all of my accessories, getting a raised eyebrow, followed by a warm smile with the statement, "You are SO Latina". Boy did I feel proud. I totally owned my love for glitz, glam, feathers, being Latina and, well, pink. Years later, I can confidently say, not much has changed!

This months Latina Magazine features a beautiful make-up spread titled "Glitter Goddess", with an array of sparkly styles that I am no stranger to! With Latina Mag, I'm either learning muy mucho or relating; in this case it's the latter. Starting back in July, I have taken photos of my glitter nails, eyes and lips to share on a blog post and coming across this article put a smile on my face. The "I did that" smile on my face. Though I can't credit Latina Magazine for the glitter inspiration I can credit my favorite magazine for finally writing this post (they always have my back!)

Check out my pics and read more inside!

Got Curls?

I suffer the bane of schizophrenic  hair. When I was little, I had straight hair that fell into ringlets. When I hit the double digits I started to randomly have days when my hair would air dry in massive ringlets;  sometimes pretty ones, while other times a frizzy mess, especially in the summer! This was new to me, but I really loved it on the good days. My mom always had super thick and wavy hair, in a boy cut, so she was never able to aid me in proper care of the bad hair curly hair days, and I wasn’t always so lucky to have a good hair curly hair day. Then it was recommended that I get a perm so my hair would just stay curly all of the time. Yeah, that was a great idea because it resulted in permanently frizzy and puffy hair that neither I nor anyone around me could help me with.  At that point, all I wanted was the silky hair from my single digit years back and would cry daily. My cousin, who had even curlier curls, was of absolute no help either. She just cried every day too.  The internet wasn’t part of our world in those days either (shush) and all we had were Teen and Sassy magazines. Remember those? Then, it was a matter of convincing our parents to purchase whatever products were recommended, and in turn, they would bring home the dollar store version.  After that failed, you’d then turn to your grandmother who would start to do all sorts of olive oil, egg yolk and avocado treatments that seemed to make no difference in your hair, when all you wanted was a can of Vavoom mousse and call it a day! Can anyone else relate to this?

I still have on and off issues with my hair, but by now, between dry hair and oily scalp, I’ve given up on it and normally just straighten it as much as I can to avoid what became my young adult air dry hair sensation; hat head. My hair is now thinner (partially due to lack of proper care and partially due to having prolactinoma…a topic I will eventually touch on this blog) dries straight a couple inches down from the scalp, turns into waves, then ends in curls for the last 5 inches. Sounds "creative" for lack of a better word, but it’s a hot messy mess I’ll tell you. Every once in a while it will dry all in curls, but I don’t know what makes my hair like that and a body wave to correct the situation was unsuccessful. Basically, my hair just may have a life-long identity crisis. But it’s the year 2012 and I have no more excuses, I need to start learning how to take care of my hair and make the most of those luscious curls when they pay me a visit, as well as make the most of the days that call for straightening, while maintaining healthy hair.

Beautiful author of DailyCurlz
These days, we have this little amazing tool called the internet, and this even more amazing thing called Social Media, which allows us to connect, interact and share with people all over the world. I recently came across a blog called DailyCurlz.  Actually, DailyCurlz came across me. The author of the DailyCurlz blog is in the main picture of my recent blarticle on Vakano Clothing. When she commented on my blog post, naturally, I clicked on her blog to see what she wrote about. I’m a curious little feline when it comes to treasure hunting. DailyCurlz offers advice, information, tutorials and tips in both English and Spanish for us curly haired babes! Among the many blarticles in the DailyCurlz archive, you can read about prepping you hair for the coming cold weather here ->HOLA,CLICK ME<-, as well as find tips for preventing static when wearing hats. DailyCurlz also created their own oil mix for the hair. DailyCurlz Oil Mix provides your hair and scalp with a variety  of oils, in which some (oils) contain vitamins that aid in creating healthier, longer, shinier and dandruff free hair. Click on the name to get in on the game; the link will provide you with full details on the mix and have you an expert on the product knowledge in no time! As soon as I can grab a hold of my own bottle I will let you know how it works for me! In the meanwhile, check out DailyCurlz on Blogspot and Facebook and enjoy this video of the author creating flawless curls by way of braids and some pics of my own hair.

Does anyone know what is preventing the two brats below from aligning properly?<--Serious question

Beauty Beats the Beast: Fab Chick Nail Lacquer Giveaway

I've just received my Glitz and Glam Summer Bundle , which I blogged about earlier this week, yipeeee! I'm already wearing the Showstopper lip gloss that I've been dying to try and I love it so much!

Anyway, this is not an another review so let me just cut to the chase. Sharing is caring and since I already have After Party, and plenty of glitter therefore should share Glitz and Glam, I am going to give these two polishes to one random friend. After Party is the unique neutral I was raving about and the Glitz and Glam glitter looks so great over it! So here's the three step deal-io on entering the giveaway, the three things you need to do aaaaare:

1. Facebook users: "Like" Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond's Facebook Page here and share it on your page tagging me. Anti-Facebookers: Subscribe to Fab Chick's newsletter here and mention you found out about them from "Fabulous Life of a Senorita" for confirmation. No worries, they neither post or e-mail often. I've yet to see either.

2. Read what Fab Chick is about on my August 3rd post about them and leave a comment at the bottom answering the question asked at the end of the post (conveniently highlighted in bold purple for you baby dolls). Click here to be directed to that post.

3. Since Fab Chick's charitable efforts is one of the things that attracts me to them most, please re-post this blarticle on nail lacquer Butterfly onto your Facebook profile and tag me so I know. Non-Facebook users: share the post via e-mail with your friends and CC' me at adventures.of.a.NY.gypsy@gmail.com. $2 of every Butterfly purchase supports the Lupas Foundation of America, so please at least get the word out on this products availability.

The only exclusions are the people who live with me, since you are always stealing polish from my polish jar anyway. Oh, and if you live outside of U.S. or Canada (genuinely sorry!). Anyone and everyone else can enter, and as promised, an entry for any of my current followers that I have recorded counts for 2, as long as you enter.

I'll be wrapping this up Thursday, August 25th at Midnight, East Coast time (always thinking of my Night Owls). If you are the winner and prefer your name not be announced, just Post Script that in your comment (I understand, I'm bashful with those things too!)

If you have any questions (eh hem, my non internet social savvy friends), please feel free to contact me at adventures.of.a.NY.gypsy@gmail.com or call me at #anyonewhoshouldhavemynumberhasit. Good luck cutie pies and thank you for reading!

Beauty Beats the Beast, Numero V: The Many Ways to Enjoy the After Party like a Fab Chick

I recently typed about one of my favorite neutral colors, After Party, from Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond. Since I will be giving this color away later this week (an extra one, slow.your.roll. I'm keeping mine) I figured now would be a good time as any to show you the different ways I've been using this non-color color, as promised in a previous post. After Party is a whitish/gray color that looks great alone or as a base. I don't have the best hands for modeling, or the best camera for photos, so now that my disclaimer is out there I'll say, enjoy the ideas and it looks much better in person!

After Party from Fab Chick by Harlem Diamonds

"Electric Graffiti" crackle polish by Icing over Fab Chick's After Party. I had a hard time finding a base for this neon pink crackle polish, After Party is perfect with it, says the girl with 47 nail polish colors.

"Broken Glass" crackle polish by Icing over "After Party" by Fab Chick

"Shatter" crackle polish by Icing over "After Party" by Fab Chick. I like it. It looks like a cow...not really, but kinds sorta.

"Kaleidoscope" glitter polish by Wet n' Wild over, you guessed it, "After Party" from Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond (Ha, ha! Betcha didn't see that last part coming!)

"Shatter" by Icing over "Kaleidoscope" by Wet n' Wild, insert breath over "After Party" by Fab Chick. The Glittery Cow, lol.

I will be posting the details of the giveaway by midnight tonight. The giveaway will be for Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond After Party and Glitz and Glam glitter.  So if you love look #1 and look #5, stay tuned because I'm so excited to be offering it to one of you!

Thanks for reading!

Beauty Beats the Beast, Numero IV: Aqua-ish Nails!

"For Audrey" by China Glaze adorns my fingertips
Ever since I bought my clients at work Gianna's Rockin' Blue by Brucci at Rite Aid for St. Patty's day this year, I've had a thing with green (the above mentioned is an awesome blue-ish green). Since that purchase I've also added Caribbean Turquoise by Quirius to my vast collection of polishes. As it so often happens, it's almost the same color as Gianna's Rockin' Blue. Lovely, but I've been looking for green/blue closer to aqua; like a Tiffany's bag, ooh la la.

Color Splashing the photo didn't make it as cool as I'd imagined
Well, the other day I saw my sister walking out the door with the color that's pictured above on my nails and I fell in love! I stopped her in her tracks and asked her where she got the polish. It's called "For Audrey" and is by China Glaze. It can be all yours for $4.99 on the Sally Beauty Stores website, <---there you can also find a store locator to see if you can pick it up at a location near you.

What I loved about this polish and color other than how pretty it is, is how well it stayed on. Anything that lasts a shift at my job passes my nail polish test. My sister has had the same "staying power" experience with the polish color, however, she has a few other shades by China Glaze which she said for some reason don't have the same great long lasting results. Hmm, something for me to look into further when I am in "Senorita Scientist Cosmetic Biochemist Mode". I hate that I can't get my keyboard to make a tilda on the "n" in Senorita,  grrrr.

*China Glaze Nail Lacquer's are made with hardeners which help promotes healthy nail growth and is Tolulene and DBP Free. China Glaze Nail Lacquer' details:

  • Professional 220-strand brush for easy application

  • Long-wearing nail lacquer is an oil base

  • Flexible and will not chip

  • Greatest fashion shades

  • Non-Thickening formula

  • Great coverage

*Source of above information: Sally Beauty Website

Speaking of a Tiffany's bag, it seems the bag may have been the inspiration for this color.
"For Audrey"--->Breakfast at Tiffany's--->Audrey Hepburn--->DUH.
I found this blog post while searching for better images of this polish since I wouldn't hire my teeny tiny nail beds to sell it to you! Check it out here--->BETTER NAIL MODEL<---to see a post with pics that do this polish justice. The Tiffany bag made an appearance on that post too! :p

Here's that much better hand model!

I hope you all love this color as much as I do and thanks for reading!

Help others by Treating Yourself with "Butterfly" Nail Laquer

It doesn't take getting something in return in order for me to give, and I'll add that it shouldn't for anyone, however, I especially love it when a product I purchase gives back. Sometimes, I even buy things I don't need because they are being sold for charity and just save them as gifts for people I know would enjoy them.

A few weeks ago while writing a blarticle on Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond, I came across nail laquer "Butterfly" and discovered that with every purchase of the $8 polish, $2 will go to Lupas Foundation of America. I already loved this indie cosmetic line that sells nail polishes, lip gloss and lip stick with consumer's health in mind, but discovering the generous and charitable heart of founder Grace Williams made me love it even more.

You can support Lupas Foundation of America and a phenomanal small business with your purchase of Butterfly here. To learn more about Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond and their products, please click here. You'll be led to their site of DBP, Formaldehyde and Toluene free polishes and Vitamin E and Green Tea Extract enriched lip products free of parabens.

Please check out the highlighted links and thank you for reading my lovelies!

Beauty Beats the Beast, Numero III: Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond Cosmetics

I’m a beauty product junkie by birth. It’s genetic, the gene comes from both sides of the family (inherited from my aunt on my father’s side, my grandmother on my mother’s side. See, there you have it). While my stock of mainstream product lines is plentiful, there is nothing I love more than trying out products from new cosmetic companies and I am really excited about Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond

Their mantra is, "Be Fabulous, Amazing and Beautiful while maintaining a health friendly balance in our beauty routine."

Now if a mantra like that doesn’t get you wanting to find out more about a product line, then I don’t know what will! For me it was that and the similarity in our usernames (I’m Fab Chitating and they are Fab Chick!)  Fab Chick is an eco-friendly line that carries two nail polish collections, a lipstick collection and a lip gloss collection. Simple, fun, fabulous and beautiful.

Fab Chick offers a 3 Free Nail Laquer line which consists of nine beautiful colors and a glossy top coat. And what, you ask, is it free of? It is free of 3 things that we really don’t want anywhere on and definitely not in, our bodies:

  1. Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)

  2. Formaldehyde

  3. Toluene

Here are some learned facts from Fab Chick’s website on these 3 lil puppies:
    ·         DBP is a “potential developmental and reproductive toxin that may cause birth defects and is banned in Europe”
    ·         Formaldehyde is a “chemical that is proven to cause cancer”
    ·         Toluene is a “chemical that the EPA restricts from our drinking water and it can cause damage to liver and kidneys”

There are two fabulous nail polish collections available in this cosmetic line. One is a tribute to the one and only Harlem. The Harlem Collection consists of sinfully sultry and sexy colors with Harlem worthy names such as Billie’s Blues, Hue of Hughes, 2 Fifth and In My Own Skin (I just LOVE the names!) The second collection is the Glitz and Glam Collection which also consists of four colors plus a super glossy finish top coat, Glam and Glossy. The colors in this collection are vibrant, fun and sassy; perfect for a night out! Top any of the colors in the line with Glitz and Glam silver glitter for a quick makeover from "working girl" nails to "happy hour girl" nails, or let your nails draw attention to you with a color that pops such as Hot Gurl. You can go ahead and be a go getter with Go Get ‘Em Girl, a delicious shade of red, or lay lounge low (but never unnoticed!) with After Party, a unique neutral shade!

Above: Fab Chicks Butterfly polish, in support of Lupas Foundation of America
Before I get into these two hot collections, I have to mention that outside of these collections is one shade that stands tall and proud on it's own and is the most important of the crew. Why? Because it's made to raise money for charity. The 11th color in the line, every $2 out of the $8 nail polish sale of Butterfly goes straight to the Lupas Foundation of America and includes an LFA Bracelet. The color is described as a deep eggplant purple. Please click here to purchase. Involvement for charity is so important to me. Ask my Macy's credit card! Back in the day, Estee Lauder got me every time with their Breast Cancer Awareness collections when I went to try and pay off my card. Needless to say, it took a loooong time to pay that card off! That being said, I am incredibly impressed that a new and small business has created a product in honor of a cause so early on, and such a generous one at that. See, there are so many reasons why you should shop Fab Chick, as there are so many reasons why Fab Chic is Fab!

Above: Hue of Hughes after my above mentioned work shift.
Of the Harlem Collection, I had the opportunity to try on Hue of Hughes. This color is a beautiful, deep, sultry wine color; it reminds me of merlot. I wore it to work to test its staying power, and I work at a place where I’m lucky if polish lasts more than my first hour of clocking in. Impressively, not one chipped nail by the end of my shift.

Click pic to buy Hue of Hughes

< My friend Maria is now the proud owner of Hue of Hughes since I don't often wear dark wine colors on my teeny tiny nails unless I have a tan. She was so excited! I knew she would love it, wear the color more often than me, and therefore be a great public hand model for the Hue of Hughes!

Click Pic to get After Party
Of the Glitz and Glam line, I tried After Party. There are endless possibilities with this color (I will surely have a post with at least 2 different looks in the near future). Not only does this color look great on alone, it’s a great base for designs (hence, endless possibilities). I own at least 20 different nail polish colors and not one complimented my hot pink crackle polish until I tried it with After Party. Purrrfect-fit. I received so many compliments on the color both alone and with design. It literally goes with everything! I should also mention that I wore this color on my toes to work out, followed by the beach, and it survived the sand and waves!

Last but not least, the Kissable Lips Collection  offers six lip glosses and five lipsticks. The line is paraben free, infused with green tea extract and vitamin E which means you will be getting smooth, kissable and non sticky lips!

I unfortunately have not tried the lip collection (yet) but these colors are AH-MAY-ZING! So much so, that two of the lip glosses are sold out! I’m definitely going to get my hands on some of these shades too, I’m thinking Bella for lipstick (my “adopted” big sis’s nickname for me) and Showstopper for lip gloss (reminiscent of my days doing the show girl thing when I lived near NYC). What are your favorite color picks? Click here to see the kissable collection up close and personal, pass your cursor over the pictures, click away, and share with me your opinion. Let’s internet confabulate ladies!

If you click on any of the light purple text within the post, you will be redirected to a link on the topic or the item on Harlem Diamond's website. Thank you so much for reading and keep an eye out for more on Fab Chick by Harlem Diamond on my blog coming soon! Til next time baby dolls!

Beauty Beats the Beast Numero II: Mario Badescu is so Supercalifragilistic it gets me Aladocious!

In celebration of me finally getting my laptop fixed (yaaaay! two months later...) and Mario Badescu requesting their fans submit pictures of their beloved MB products on facebook, I figured why not make Mario Badescu the topic of my first blog after an almost two month hiatus from writing (okaaay, "chitating"!)?

Three short/long (however you'd like to look at it!) years ago I had a MASSIVE breakout like none other before. It was so bad that my father was willing to pay out of his pocket for me to see a specialist. In the midst of a ginormous move from Yonkers to the Bronx (roll your eyes all you want, four floor walk up-nuff'said), I had many sleepless nights due to the pain I experienced when my face hit the pillow. Nope, sleeping on my back did not work because I'd move during my sleep which caused me to wake up from the pain, and every cream, cleanser and acne treatment I used either didn't work or made the pain worse! On the last night of my move I stayed with my aunt in Yonkers and ransacked her medicine cabinet looking for a moisturizer to soothe the pain and relieve the dryness. As I hoped, the "Queen of Everything Beauty and Fashion" delivered when I put my desperate paws on a jar of Mario Badescu's Seaweed Night Cream. When I read that it was great for acne prone skin I applied it and the rest is history. I slept like a baby that night because the cream IMMEDIATELY soothed my skin, like magic, AND I woke up with dewy fresh skin that glowed...with an army of pimples that still needed to be battled (womp, womp...woooomp). I wanted more of Mario Badescu, so I immediately searched for their website and began researching their products. I saw that a representative was going to be at Lavish Beauty in Westhampton Beach, NY soon after my MB discovery and made an appointment quicker than you can read this sentence. Since I am impatient, I ordered the buffering and drying lotions online and stole (okay, asked for) some of my aunt's cleanser and night cream to hold me over until I met with Mario Badescu's specialist.

Soon after, I met with Dana Danza of Mario Badescu at Lavish Beauty Boutique in Westhampton Beach, NY and she is the lovely lady responsible for putting together the skin regimen that helped my skin get it's groove back! You can find all the details of her advice here at Mario Badescu's website<--click there. Yep, my skin was so bad I had to record its progress and then give credit where credit was due, so I wrote a letter to the MB Gods telling them about how grateful I and my skin were and how much I loved them, Dana Danza and Lavish Beauty for helping me out. They then asked permission to use my success story on their site (why, of course you may!) and they treated me to one of their amazing facials (best I ever had, don't go another facial without letting them get down to business with your skin!). Needless to say, three years later I am still acne free and my scars are almost non-existent!

Some other benefits to being a Mario Badescu groupie are:
    • Their products are very reasonably priced and last a loooooooooong time (longer than that long)
    • You get three free samples with every internet order
    • Most always there is free shipping with purchases $50 or more (so stock up my loves!)
    • Mario Badescu runs free gift with purchase promos now and then and their free gifts are very generous so sign up for their e-mails asap!
I cannot stress enough how much I love Mario Badescu, it's the longest relationship I've had with, well, anything! So much that I am posting my pictures of my deep dark acne period all over again for all to see, look below to experience the photo journey of my skin from bad to glad! And just as an FYI, these products are not just a girl's night out to the beauty bar for a Skintini, they are for the boys too!

Next pay day I am going after Mario Badescu's Summer Shine Body Lotion, perhaps the only thing most fellas may not be sporting! At the end of my photo log I will post links to what other Bloggesses have said about it!

    Love,

    Your Chitating friend xo
